Luxury car drivers rob man

CARLSWALD - Nhlanhla Simelane was helping his boss move a business sign from a store at Carlswald Deco Centre when he was robbed by two men at gunpoint.

Simelane said when he had been catching his breath on the morning of 21 October, a man approached him and asked him to help carry boxes into his white Mercedes Kompressor, C200.

“When I got to his car, I found the man had a companion,” he said. Simelane claims the two men pulled out guns and pointed them at him. They then took his cellphone. “They didn’t take my wallet as it was in a concealed pocket in my pants,” he said.

Simelane said he then went looking for help from the centre’s security guards who then searched the premises, but the men had already made their getaway.

“They took property which is worth R7 000 from me,” lamented Simelane.

The centre’s head of security, Robert Mhangani said there had been a case reported to them. He said although the centre could not be held liable for any damage or loss of property, they were advising the centre’s patrons to report any incidents immediately so they may receive assistance with calling the police and to patrol the area in case the criminals are still in the vicinity.

As for Simelane, he said the police advised him to get International Mobile Equipment Identity, commonly known as IMEI numbers for his phones, block them and then return to open a case.
