Railway tracks stolen, value unknown

RABIE RIDGE - Police caught three men on 20 October after they were found in possession of railway tracks.

Police received an anonymous tip off of a white bakkie carrying the tracks. Mhlongo said arrests were made following this information and the three suspects were charged with possession of stolen goods.

“The suspects were found at Austin View and were then detained at Rabie Ridge police station,” said Mhlongo. The suspects appeared at Tembisa Magistrates’ court on 22 October. “We are still unsure of the outcome of this appearance,” said Mhlongo.

The value of the tracks is still unknown as Metrorail has yet to claim and assess the tracks. “We are waiting on Metrorail to come and identify the tracks and to tell us the value,” said Mhlongo.
