Five men rob a shop at Jabula Supermarket

MIDRAND - Police have two men, aged 32 and 52 years old, in custody. The men were charged with a business robbery on 20 October.

It is said the men had three other accomplices. They entered Jabula Supermarket at corner Market street and Church street.

According to a worker in the shop, who was on duty on the day, the five men entered the shop with pistols in hand. One man waited by the door as a lookout while the other suspects were busy with the shop’s employees.

They assaulted one of the employees and demanded cash.

They took cash and airtime vouchers and put them in a black bag. As the suspects left the shop and started running away from the scene, a taxi driver saw them and alerted Metro police.

The Metro police went to the scene and arrested two suspects. The other three got away. The unknown taxi driver assisted the police in making the arrests.

Upon further invesigation, a silver revolver was recovered.

Constable Nanty Belebesi, social crime prevention coordinator of the Midrand police said they were hoping to make more arrests soon.
