Beaulieu champion titles keep on coming

MIDRAND - Barely a week after their victorious show at the South African School of Judo Championships, Beaulieu Preparatory School judo boys did it again, by retaining their title at the Tatami Judo League Challenge.

On 11 October, the annual inter-schools challenge took place at Wits University. The schools that participated in the event were Bryanston Primary, Bryandale, Bryanevan, Kyalami Preparatory, St. David’s and Beaulieu Preparatory.

“After winning the title and trophy last year for their school, the boys were determined to repeat and build on their success,” said team manager Daniel Hristov.

“All the schools and players gave it their all, with the supporters edging on the little champions,” continued Hristov, however, it was the Beaulieu Preparatory team that remained unbeaten. Once again, they lifted the trophy for their team and school.

“The team consisted of seven players displaying tremendous tenacity, skill and spirit,” said Hristov. The players were Ntokoza Phakati, Ryan Oughton, Alex Hristov, Matt Morkel, Ethan McCabe, Travis Mace and Tebogo Reid.

The Tatami club sensei, Basil Smith was all smiles after the league. “Congratulations to the Beaulieu Preparatory Grade 2 team on winning the Inter-School League Challenge 2014,” he said. “I am extremely proud of all the boys and schools on their achievements at the league. It is a great tournament and the boys love competing for their schools.”
