Dramatic arrest in Midrand
MIDRAND - At around 11.30am this morning, residents saw the dramatic arrest of five men in a white Toyota Avanza,
The men were cornered by a squad from Midrand police at corner Le Roux and Old Pretoria Road on 11 November.
The police’s social crime prevention co-ordinator constable Nanty Belebesi said the car was first spotted on Morris street by an on duty police officer. The office recognised the white Avanza with tinted windows from previous cases.
When he observed the vehicle, he found that it had no registration number. He then tested the car and found that it was indeed linked to a burglary case in Alexandra.
“The officer then called for back up as the suspects were driving away,” said Belebesi.
The five men have been charged with possession of a stolen vehicle. She said although investigation with regards to finger prints and authentication had yet to be done, the men also faced possible charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm.
“Although the suspects were running away when they were caught, it was a relatively peaceful arrest that was made,” said Belebesi.
