Copper thief nabbed

RABIE RIDGE - An alleged copper thief is behind bars. The 20-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of 20 November.

Rabie Ridge police spokesperson Constable Jacob Nhlongo said, “The suspect was arrested in Kanana for possession of stolen copper. He was found at the side of the road with the copper and digging tools.”

The suspect was arrested by members of the South African Police Service and Metro police who were patrolling in Kanana. They approached the suspect and asked what he was doing at the side of the road with shovels and picks. The suspect did not respond. When police searched his belongings, they allegedly found stolen copper.

According to Nhlongo, the suspect has been detained at Rabie Ridge Police Station where he will be charged. He will appear in court soon.
