Structural defect on fly-over bridge

JOBURG - Johannesburg Roads Agency has promised to investigate the flyover crossing the Gautrain line leading into President Park.

This was prompted by concerns raised by President Park Action Group.

Mike Johnson from the action group said a structural defect developed in the fly-over bridge on West Road and K101 intersection.

He said, “This problem needs immediate attention, we have made the roads agency aware of the issue.”

Johnson suspects that the cracks and holes could have been caused by metal plates moving below the surface. “This is dangerous, we hope the situation will be rectified soon, at the moment it is a disaster waiting to happen.”

Johannesburg Roads Agency spokesperson Bertha-Peters Scheepers said, while investigating the site, the agency will ensure the community is kept abreast of all developments, including any possible impact on road users.

“Our team of engineers will conduct a study over the next few weeks to determine the best course of remedial action to take.”
