Security guard gets 14 years for murder

MIDRAND - A former security guard has been convicted to 14 years imprisonment for the murder of a man who had asked him for a lift.

The incident took place at around 3.10am on 8 June last year.

Two men were stranded in Midrand CBD and asked a security guard who was driving a company car to kindly give them a lift home. The security guard agreed. On their way, nearing Old Pretoria Road, the security guard asked the men how much they were going to pay him.

The men said they would give him R50.00 for his efforts. This angered the security guard, who then told them he was turning back and would drop them off where he found them.

The men immediately got out of the car, but he followed them and shot one of the men in the neck. The victim died on the scene.

Detective Sergeant Edward Dikgale was the investigating officer in the case. The Midrand Police Station management have commended the work Dikgale did with regards to the case.
