In a statement, the party’s secretary Sabelo Dlamini said the province is an economic hub of our country, but people at grass-roots level are not feeling this because they lack services, mainly due to big councils which are unable to provide them with necessities such as water, electricity and other needs.
He explained, “Having another metro to incorporate areas such as Midrand, Bronkhorspruit, Kempton Park, Isando, Tembisa, Ivory Park, Diepsloot, Centurion and surroundings will see far-fetched and under-developed areas getting services,” he said.
The party said the proposed Midrand Metropolitan will have 100 councillors, thus making it manageable and they are calling on Premier David Makhura to consider the proposal.
Dlamini added that Malamulele was in rampage as residents were demanding for their own municipality because of lack of services.
“We have areas that are well developed near the run-down towns. But if you incorporate those run-down towns with areas that are well serviced, the Malamulele situation can be averted. Residents are fed-up and the only way they can vent their anger is through demonstrations. That is why we propose one more Metropolitan for Gauteng so that issues of services can be addressed,”said Dlamini.
