“We received a call from one of the neighbours saying they saw that something was happening,” said Maduray. Three suspects were arrested in Frans Oude Street in Vorna Valley while one of the accomplices got away by jumping over residential walls.
The four suspects were making their getaway at about 1pm in a white Hyundai Getz.
“They stole a plasma screen television and a lot of other things,” said Maduray. “We couldn’t take inventory of all the other stuff as it would jeopardise the fingerprints for the police.”
Maduray said he dispatched two patrol cars who called the police to the scene after the three suspects were apprehended. “We couldn’t chase after the fourth one because that would mean living the three unattended,” he said,
“They forced their entry into the home by kicking in the front door,” said Maduray. Although a domestic worker and a child were home at the time of the robbery, no one was reported hurt.
“Crime is happening every day. These guys are linked to other robberies that have occurred in the area,” said Maduray. Midrand police’s head of communications, Constable Matome Tlamela confirmed Maduray’s claims and said the police had launched a manhunt for the fourth suspect whom they believed was in possession of a firearm.
“The docket for this case is still being processed and the three suspects are still being being questioned,” said Tlamela. “They were not armed when they were arrested.”
