In a statement, Midrand Police Station commander Colonel Steven Moodley said, “The arrests are an indication that our members are out in full force to tackle criminality and violent criminals without fear or favour.”
Moodley added that the men and women in blue are sending a message to the community that the police has dedicated and committed police officials who are prepared to risk their lives, should it be necessary, to protect the lives and property of the community.
“It is encouraging to read and hear stories in the media which prove that our employees are vigilant and ready to respond at any given moment. We appeal to our members to keep up the good work, but to also always ensure your own safety,” he said.
A major arrest the squad was commended for was the arrest of six suspects in President Park in Midrand on 19 February. The suspects allegedly were about to commit a house robbery in the Midrand area. They were spotted at the corner of West and Alsatian streets in a rented white Polo.
Two unlicensed firearms, a 9mm Norinco and a pump-action shotgun were found on the suspects who will soon appear in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
