Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said, “We are responding to a number of hijacking cases at night. Most of the victims just park on the streets and become targets for criminals.”
A white VW Golf was hijacked on 8 March just after midnight at Dlamini Drive in Ivory Park Ext 6. According to the complainant, he briefly stopped at a yield sign to open his window as it was hot that night. He was approached by two men who pulled him out of the vehicle and ordered him to sit at the back. The suspects dropped him next to Pick n Pay at Swazi Inn shopping centre.
On the same day, a Polo Vivo was hijacked while the driver and his girlfriend were arguing outside the car in Republic Road near Ebony Park.
“The complainants said they were approached by three male suspects driving a grey Polo Vivo,” said Sekgobela. “The suspects threatened the victims with a firearm and forced the owner of the vehicle back into the car. They drove with him and dropped him off in Tswelopele and fled with his car.”
Police are looking for both vehicles and anyone with information can contact Ivory Park police on 011 990 9600.
