Greater Mayfair Civic Association chairperson Rick Nair confirmed that the incident occurred on 6 March on 6th street in Mayfair, Johannesburg. The footage captured by Crime Watch shows a BMW pulling into a driveway and another car turning into the road.
The BMW passenger gets out and the other vehicle stops behind the vehicle in the driveway. Three armed men jump out of the second car and pull the driver out of the BMW and force him into the back seat of the car. A fourth accomplice gets into the driver’s seat of the BMW.
The hijackers flee with the victim while the passenger manages to run away. According to Nair, the kidnappers seemed to have specific information about their victim.
“We believe he could have been transporting money,” he told the Rekord. “The driver was found unharmed a couple of hours later.”
