The incident occurred on the morning of 7 March when the suspect tried to rob a man at an Absa ATM.
The victim of the crime said in a statement to the police that when he arrived at the ATM a man was using it. The man finished his transaction and left. The victim removed the slip that the suspect had left behind in the ATM, and as he was about to insert his card into the machine, he was approached by the same man. The suspect snatched the man’s bank card and inserted it into the machine demanding his pin.
The suspect did not have a weapon on him, and the complainant shouted for help. The centre’s security came to his aid and the police were called.
