Million rands worth of dagga confiscated by police

IVORY PARK - Police and members of its youth crime prevention desk discovered uprooted dagga plants in Duduza in an open veld on 12 March.

The police station’s spokesperson Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said, “A million rands worth of dagga was uprooted along a river which flows into an open veld.”

Sekgobela added that police believed the dagga was planted by residents in that area. “While police confiscated and uprooted the plants, some residents nearby complained that dagga plants are ideal medication for coughs and asthma,” she said.

The plants were taken to Ivory Park Police Station to be destroyed. Police have warned the community against growing dagga and if anyone was found with a dagga patch in their yard, they would be arrested and charged. No arrests have been made regarding this incident.
