Lifts offered, but passengers end up victims of robbery

IVORY PARK - Police are appealing to members of the community to be cautious when asking for lifts from strangers, in case of criminal activities.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said, “People must be alert and take down registration numbers of the vehicles they are offered lifts in so that they will give enough information to police if they encounter criminal activities.”

Sekgobela said the appeal comes after a driver of a white Golf 4 in Ivory Park Ext 2 offers people lifts in the mornings and they end up being robbed of their belongings. She urged the community to consider using well-known public transport vehicles to avoid being victims of robbery in private vehicles.
