Captain Chetty commended for his work

MIDRAND - Midrand Police station commander Colonel Steven Moodley and the station's management team commended the work done by Captain Lionel Chetty in serving and protecting the community.

Moodley said Chetty while on his way home, noticed a bakkie coming out of River View Office Park driving recklessly and he followed it. “The captain called for backup while trying to stop the bakkie,” said Moodley. “The suspect noticed he was being followed, and suddenly stopped the bakkie and fled into nearby bush on foot.”

The suspect dropped a laptop while running away. Police recovered the laptop, and the vehicle used in the crime is also suspected to be stolen.

A complainant told police that she had tried to lock her car at the office park but her lights kept flashing. Apparently the suspect had used a jamming device to prevent the woman from locking her car, and her laptop was stolen.

Security guards chased the bakkie but it drove through the boom gate. Police are investigating and no suspects have been arrested.
