
SIX hundred and forty drunk drivers were arrested and 53 motorists were detained for speeding in the Johannesburg area.
Metro police spokesperson Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said, “Metro police held roadblocks from 2 April from 10pm to 4am, and 3 to 6 April in the evenings. Drunk drivers were detained and blood samples were taken at various police stations.”
Minnaar confirmed that the groom was arrested on the way to his wedding for driving at 161km/h in a 120km/h zone on the N1 South. His best man was equally in a hurry and was clocked at 180km/h in the same 120km/h zone, and was also taken into custody.
