German shepherd cross hit by a car on N1

MIDRAND - Traffic was brought to a standstill on the N1 on the morning of 10 April after a German shepherd cross was trapped in the fast lane near the Olifantsfontein off ramp.

SPCA inspector Jerry Seemise told Midrand Reporter that the SPCA and law enforcement got to the scene to try and rescue the dog after they received calls from concerned motorists.

He said, “Unfortunately when we arrived the dog had just been hit by a car in the fast lane. The dog collar has a micro chirp, we will be able to find the owner.”

Seemise added that the animal shelter received 12 calls from motorists. He stated, “We want to thank everyone who phoned us and those who tried to drive with care so as not to hit the dog, but unfortunately in the end it was killed.”

He urged residents to take better care of pets and not let them roam free and, as in this case, to micro chip their pets so owners can be easily identified.
