Tavern closed down after drug bust

MIDRAND - The Midrand Police recovered drugs worth R7 000 at a local tavern.

The Crime Intelligence Unit, together with the social crime prevention unit conducted a routine search operation on 10 April at around 10pm.

Unfortunately, when the police arrived the perpetrator had already dumped the drugs in the tavern.

The assortment of drugs included dagga, khat, ecstasy and cocaine.

It is unclear to the police as to who the perpetrators were, and Constable Nanti Belebesi, social crime prevention co-ordinator of the police said the owner of the tavern was unco-operative. The search also resulted in syringes being found.

The tavern has since been closed down by the police.

“We are hoping to start making arrests soon,” said Belebesi.
