In a statement to the Midrand police, the woman said she was still awake in the early hours of 10 April when she saw a torch shining outside her lounge window.
She said she had locked her doors and closed her window just before she sat down to watch some TV at around 1am. That’s when she saw the light. The light then went off and a man appeared in her lounge and switched off the TV.
She said he let another man into the house, and they demanded cash and jewellery. They took her cellphone charger and tied her hands and legs with it. They then started to search her house and took her laptop, tablet, iPhone, TV and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The police have yet to arrest anyone. There were no signs of forced entry. However, Constable Nanti Belebesi, social crime prevention officer at the station said, “The police are busy with the investigation and we are hoping to make arrests soon.”
