Speedster on N1 South refuses to stop for police

MIDRAND - Metro Police High-Speed Units arrested motorists for speeding over the weekend of 1 to 3 May, among them a motorist who refused to stop while speeding past Midrand.

Johannesburg Metro Police spokesperson Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said, “A total of 41 motorists were arrested, including a man in his late 30s who was caught doing 209 km/h on N1 Midrand which is a 120km/h zone.”

Minnaar said the motorist refused to stop for officers but was eventually arrested at his house in Pretoria an hour later and was charged with drunk driving.

In another incident, a 63-year-old woman from Pimville in Soweto was stopped by police after driving a blue Dodge at 129km/h in a 60km/h zone on 2 May on the Golden Highway. She told officers that she was rushing to a funeral.

All motorists were released on bail from R1 000 to R1 500 and will soon appear in different courts.
