Organisations gives uniforms to children in need

KAALFONTEIN - YOUTH in Diversity, a non-profit organisation focused in youth development, gave Grade 1 and Grade R pupils in need at Drake Koka Primary School, full school uniforms.

A co-ordinator at Youth in Diversity, Tshepo Maota said 30 children who had no shoes and jerseys were selected by teachers as receipients of new uniforms.

He said, “It is heartbreaking to think that children in need go to school without a complete uniform, but it happens. Youth in Diversity is honoured to have contributed to the children’s school needs.”

Youth in diversity aims to involve corporate companies around Midrand and Tembisa in its Facts (For A Child To School) campaign.

Maota stressed that the community cannot turn a blind eye to children living in poverty around Kaalfontein, Ivory Park, Ebony Park and Tembisa. Youth in Diversity has partnered with Elijah Barayi Memorial Training Centre and Tshwaranang Orphaned and Vulnerable Children to try and meet children’s needs around Midrand.

Principal at Drake Koka Primary School, Bophelo Moyaha said the school was touched by the uniforms given to children in need. “We want to thank Youth in Diversity for the school uniforms. Tswaranang also donated 50 school shoes to us, we are thankful for the kindness they have shown.”

Moyaha said as winter begins, not all children can afford winter uniforms, some brave the cold without jerseys just to go to school.
