Cops weeding out the dagga dealers

MIDRAND - A man was arrested and taken to Midrand Police Station for possession of dagga valued at R350 000.

 

Metro police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar, said on 15 August, the Region C Crime Prevention Unit received information that there was a gold BMW transporting dagga from Lesotho heading towards Pretoria.

The unit waited on the N1 North and spotted the vehicle at around 4pm. The unit stopped the car near the Allandale off-ramp in Midrand.

“When they searched the vehicle, they discovered a hidden compartment in the backseat of the vehicle made of steel and covered with sponge. Inside the compartment were 50 green brick-shaped plastic bags containing dagga which weighed 46.4kg,” said Minnaar.

The driver was arrested and detained at Midrand Police Station and the vehicle was booked in at Aeroton Police Vehicle Pound.

Midrand police spokesperson Constable Matome Tlamela confirmed that the suspect was detained at the Midrand Police Station cells and would appear in court soon.
