Write and get your manuscript proofread

MIDRAND - A marketing company based in Midrand which works with authors and artists, is offering a young writer below the age of 30 a chance to have their manuscript assessed for free.

A Midrand resident and founder of Nubia Advertising and Promotions, Nozibele Zondi, said the offer is to help a young writer who may be struggling to get his or her book assessed and proofread.

She said, “The challenges faced by authors who are trying to self-publish and sell their books can be overwhelming. We hope young writers can get empowered to tell their stories through writing more.”

Zondi pointed out that many writers get discouraged and do not publish a manuscript when faced with the thought of designing and marketing the book.

She explained, “The cost of getting your book put together by a publishing house can be costly and that is why most people end up going the self-publishing route.”

But before you can self-publish and sell your book on platforms such as Amazon, a professional proofreader and designer have to take a look at your book. This, at least, does not cost as much as approaching a publishing house.

Zondi added that some writers give manuscripts to friends and think that they have received the best proofreading and editing. “This is not good enough as you need a professional to package your product, make sure it’s marketable and well distributed,” she said.

“The excitement of writing a book is huge, but the thought of publishing it should not kill a writer’s dream.”
