Midrand constable gets the convictions

HALFWAY HOUSE - Midrand police have commended the work of Detective Constable Netshidzati Nkhumeleni for her excellence in investigating two assault cases.

The first case of assault with intention to cause grievous bodily harm occurred at a bar in Midrand. Two people got into a fight and one man hit another with a beer bottle. In this case, the suspect was sentenced to three years imprisonment or a R120 000 fine.

Midrand police spokesperson Constable Matome Tlamela said in another case, the suspect assaulted a Metro police officer who had pulled him over. The suspect received a fine of R6 000 or six months imprisonment. “The whole sentence was suspended for a period of five years on condition that the accused is not linked to crimen injuria [a crime where the dignity of another is intentionally infringed upon] committed during the period of suspension. The accused was also declared unfit to possess a firearm,” said Tlamela.
