Midrand VEC volunteers enjoy year-end breakfast

MIDRAND - A group of volunteers from Midrand Police Station's Victim Empowerment Centre (VEC) celebrated their year-end function with a breakfast at Midrand Protea Hotel.

The centre, overseen by Nicola Arend, aims to facilitate access to a range of services for people living or working in Midrand who have been traumatised by violence and crime. Midrand police spokesperson, Constable Matome Tlamela said the trauma counsellors see a wide range of victims who have diverse needs and assist them in their struggle to overcome reactions of fear, anger, guilt and shame, and offer opportunities to access relevant services.

Speaking about the year-end event, Tlamela said, “The management and VEC co-ordinators thanked volunteers for their efforts and great work in the Midrand Community and encouraged them to continue doing all they can for the community.”

Volunteers were given certificates to acknowledge their contribution to Midrand. Trauma counsellors are available by appointment six days a week [except Sundays], and offer free confidential trauma debriefing.
