The victim told police that prior to the rape the suspects searched her handbag and found R10, and demanded more money from her.
She told them she had no money and they grabbed her cellphone from her. It was alleged that the suspects then raped the victim. One of the men who had dreadlocks told her that if she screamed he would stab her. After the ordeal they gave the woman her cellphone back and left her in the veld.
Midrand police spokesperson Constable Matome Tlamela said police were looking for the suspects.
“It is sad that during 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children, crimes against women are still rife. We encourage women to avoid walking through the veld at night alone, as they may be targeted by criminals,” she added
Midrand Police Station said your vulnerability increases when you:
- Walk alone in dark, isolated places
- If you appear uncertain, and do not know where you are going
- If you do not lock your car doors and close your windows
- If you talk to strangers, or stop for motorists who seem stranded
- Keep a whistle with you and blow it if you get into trouble. Always walk close to the curb, facing oncoming traffic.
Details: Anyone with information that could lead to the suspects’ arrest can contact Midrand Police Station on 011 347 1600.
