American School receives bomb threat

STEYN CITY – Pupils of the American School on Mnandi Road were forced to evacuate their classrooms and flee to an adjacent sports field after the school received a bomb threat on 26 January.

Chairperson of the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum, Jean Berdou said, “Immediately on reporting the incident, the bombs disposal unit of the South African Police Unit together with the Metro police K9 Unit, Midrand Police Station, Douglasdale Police Station and Flying Squad responded.”

After a thorough search of the school, police confirmed that no device was found and pupils were permitted to go back to class.

Berdou explained that a detailed police investigation concerning the phoned-in bomb threat and its origin had been launched.

He commended the police officials for their speedy response. “I would like to thank the South African Police Service, together with Metro police, for their incredibly prompt reaction and professional manner in which the whole thing was handled. I am grateful that all children were safe and that it was found that there was no threat to their safety.”
