Smash-and-grab suspect caught red-handed on New Road on-ramp

MIDRAND - A smash-and-grab suspect was caught red-handed on the New Road on-ramp by Ria Sebetsa Security Services guards just after they started their 7pm shift on the road on 5 February.

CEO of Ria Sebetsa Security Services Danny Maduray said the suspect was nabbed by the guards after he attempted to break the window of a car on the on-ramp. “When he saw us, he ran,” said Maduray.

The security guards chased the suspect into the bushes where they apprehended him.

Maduray said the man was found in possession of women’s jewellery.

Maduray said the security services had just started their shift on the on-ramp, a campaign in conjunction with Midrand police in order to prevent smash-and-grabs on New Road, when the guards apprehended the suspect.

“Motorists were hooting, thanking the security officers,” said Maduray.
