Firing up birthday celebrations

MIDRAND - The children of Diapers and Dummies Creche in Noordwyk recently celebrated a pupils’ birthday with a party at the Emergency Services Department (EMS) in Halfway Gardens.

Noleen Neethanathan, the mother of the birthday girl said, “I approached the station [EMS] as it was my child, Paige Naidoo’s birthday. She turned five years old. I really wanted her, as well as the kids in the creche, to understand fire safety while having fun.”

Neethanathan said the children learned the basics of what to do in the event of a fire, and other basic fire skills.

“They were most excited to get on the fire truck and pretend to be a fireman for the day,” she said.

The proud mother said the children handled themselves well while they gained invaluable knowledge of what to do in case of a fire such as calling EMS’ phone number. “It was a huge surprise for her as well as educational and beneficial to all the kids,” said Neethanathan and expressed her gratitude to the department for making her daughter’s day special.
