Ivory Park police spokesperson Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said the complainant and his brother told police that they were robbed of the money after withdrawing it from a shopping mall in Tembisa, the money was to pay their employees’ salaries.
Sekgobela explained that the complainant told police that he and his brother withdrew R45 000. He gave R10 000 to his brother to hold on to and he kept the R35 000 that criminals later stole from him.
“The complainant alleged that on their way back to Ivory Park he and his brother were approached by a grey Opel Corsa with an unknown registration number. Two occupants wearing bulletproof vests got out of that vehicle and ordered the brothers to get inside their vehicle. The suspects, for unknown reasons, allegedly told the brothers that they are taking them to the police station, but ended up driving off in a different direction,” said Sekgobela.
The brother of the complainant managed to jump out of the vehicle, which was moving slowly, and shouted for help. The suspects allegedly sped off with the complainant and robbed him of the R35 000, then dropped him off at an open veld in Winnie Mandela informal settlement.
