44 years for murder

MIDRAND - Over four decades behind bars for a murderer who killed a man in Ivory Park last year.

 

A man from Phomolong in Midrand has been sentenced to 44 years in prison for shooting and killing a man in Riverside in Ivory Park in April last year.

Ivory Park Police Station spokesperson, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said the court found that last year Tebogo Maloma murdered the victim who was found dead on the street with a gunshot wound to his upper body.

“The docket was allocated to an Ivory Park detective, Constable Poopedi, who investigated the case and arrested Maloma on 5 May last year.”

Maloma was convicted at Palm Ridge Magistrates’ Court on 18 March of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of unlawful ammunition, Sekgobela added.

On 31 March, a judge sentenced him to 22 years imprisonment for murder, 12 years for robbery, eight years for possession of and unlicensed firearm and two years for possession of unlawful ammunition.
