Man arrested for trying to bribe Metro police officers

MIDRAND – Man arrested as he tries to buy his way out of trouble

A man was arrested and detained at Midrand Police Station on a charge of fraud and attempting to bribe Metro police officers.

The suspect was stopped by members of Metro police’s freeway unmarked unit while he was driving on the N1 North near the Allandale Road off-ramp.

Metro police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said, “The man, driving a silver Opel Astra, was stopped for a road traffic violation. The driver produced a fake driving licence and when police questioned him about it, he tried to bribe the officers with $20 [about R305] and R100.”

Midrand police spokesperson Constable Matome Tlamela confirmed that the suspect was detained at the police station and a case of fraud and bribery was opened.

The suspect appeared at Midrand Magistrates’ Court on 5 April.
