Waterfall’s very own renowned racing champion
FOURWAYS– Waterfall resident and renowned racing machine, Graeme Nathan shared his journey thus far in motor sport.

“I rode motocross from the tender age of six until 1992 when a large crash forced me to reassess my involvement in motor sport,” Nathan expressed.
“Seeing that the fuel virus [racing bug] does not just go away, I took to circuit racing in a Mark 1 Mini Cooper S in 1994 and joined VW Polo Cup in 1998, and have raced a VW product ever since.”
When asked where his love of racing began, Nathan expressed that it came from his father’s involvement in the sport. “I am very passionate about motor sport as I have won eight South African Championships and, since 1999, I have been a top-five finisher every year.
“I always try to invest time in the sport and, due to my daily work commitment, the hours I put in a day to practise are not always possible, but I keep fit by cycling and dedicate three days a month to testing.”
Nathan added that his goals for the year were to win the Global Touring Car (GTC) Pro Class and Manufacturers Championship for Volkswagen Motorsport.
When asked how he felt about competing in the Sasol GTC Championship and how he did at the inaugural race on 9 August, Nathan said, “I did very well as I won second overall in the GTC race.
“I also managed to show off the GTC Jetta and achieved a positive and strong presentation of the VW Brand, I also showed the followers that we are all about winning.”
Nathan’s message to young aspiring racers is to never stop trying to win.
