A petrol station in Ebony Park, Midrand, was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money by six suspects travelling in a silver Mercedes Benz sedan in the early hours of 2 September.
Spokesperson for Ivory Park Police Station, Captain Bernard Matimulane said at about 2.30am in the morning, the store’s cashier was surprised by two men, one of whom had a rifle while the other was armed with a hammer.
Matimulane said, “The suspects ordered the cashier to open the till, and when that failed the cashier was ordered to lie down. “It was at that point that four others suspects came in and they [blew up] the cash safe.
“The suspects stole some money and cigarettes while some of the money was damaged in the process of [blowing up] the safe. The amount stolen and damaged is not yet known.”
Police are looking for the suspects and investigations are underway.
