A plea by Ivory Park Police Station Commander, Brigadier Mbongeni Ngcobo, for a closer working relationship between the community and the police has already brought results.
This follows the arrest on 15 September of two men for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Ivory Park’s Ext 2 and the discovery, later that night, of an in-house dagga nursery in Ext 7.
Ivory Park Police spokesperson, Captain Bernard Matimulane said, “In the first case, a tip-off by a member of the community led police to the recovery of a revolver in a shack and its ammunition in another shack in the same yard,” he said.

He revealed that two suspects, aged 22 and 25, were arrested, charged for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and have appeared in Tembisa Magistrates’ Court.
“In Ext 7 an anonymous tip-off also led police to an in-house dagga nursery. Police are delighted to have disrupted this illegal gardening adventure but we are disappointed that the suspects fled the scene before we could arrest them. A total of 31 dagga plants were found and confiscated by the police. The police will continue to investigate,” said Matimulane.
Ivory Park Police Station commander, Brigadier Mbongeni Ngcobo, who has been using every opportunity to call on the community to report and provide tip-offs to the police, was appreciative of this information. He said, “We are delighted that our call for co-operation is being adhered to by some members of the community. We call on more community members to emulate this example as it is the only way to defeat crime,” he said, thankfully.
