Two couples, in separate incidents, were victims of hijackings, with one suspect arrested in Midrand.
In the one incident on 7 October, Metro police spokesperson, Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said, “Officers received a radio message that a husband and wife were kidnapped during a house robbery in Pretoria CBD, their white Mercedes-Benz was taken and large sums of money were drawn from their bank accounts at about 7am on 7 October.”

He added that officers spotted the victims’ car travelling on the N1 passing the Samrand off-ramp where they called for backup from unmarked units and managed to arrest the suspect who was driving the car.
“The couple was found dumped on the eastern side of Pretoria and were unharmed. The suspect will soon appear in Midrand Magistrates’ Court charged with armed robbery, vehicle theft and kidnapping,” Minnaar revealed.
In the other incident on 8 October in Klipfontein, Captain Mofama Masela of Rabie Ridge Police Station said two men allegedly hijacked a motorist who had pulled over and was sitting in his vehicle with his girlfriend.

“The man was approached by suspects who pointed a firearm at him and ordered him and his girlfriend to get out of the vehicle,” he said. “The suspects drove off with the vehicle. No shots were fired.”

Mofama said the matter was still under investigation.
