Summerhill Nursery School shines

MIDRAND – Summerhill Nursery School kids impress at National Eisteddfod of South Africa event.

Little ones from Summerhill Nursery School are the National Eisteddfod of South Africa 2016 winners in the category English Choral Verse at an event at Roodepoort Theatre.

The National Eisteddfod of South Africa is a platform for youth development in the arts.
Sonya Toet, principal of the nursery school said she was very proud to accept an award on behalf of the Grade 0 Blue Crane class. She added, “The class was item winners for their performance in English Choral Verse for their poem Daddy’s making dinner. They fall under Gauteng North which saw them compete against schools such as Dainfern, Crawford and St Peters.”

Francois van den Berg from National Eisteddfod of South Africa said close to 12 000 entries, involving more than 27 000 individual participants from Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, North West, Northern Cape and other regions were received for the annual eisteddfod.

“More than 3 600 entries were received for the Joburg region alone. Other schools that participated in these annual activities included Dainfern College that [came] second [in] the Top 10 Award for Overall Best Achievement [schools and institutions] in the Joburg North Region. Heronbridge College took third position, with Crawford Prep Fourways in eighth position, followed by Crawford Lonehill Prep in ninth,” he said.
