To expose students to a potential career in media and broadcasting, Varsity College Waterfall, third year IIE Diploma in Public Relations students embarked on an excursion to the SABC studios in Auckland Park Johannesburg.
Genola Govindersamy, lecturer and excursion organiser said, “This trip proved to be an inspirational experience for the PR students, by exposing them to various channels and mediums of communication, helping them to better understand the practice of public relations within the broadcasting industry.”

On the tour, students had the opportunity to see how radio programmes are developed, compiled and broadcast. They toured radio stations and popular sets of local television shows.
Govindersamy added that the group learned about radio advertisement costs, for example, a peak time advert can amount to R90 000 and off-peak ads start at R500 per announcement. TV adverts can cost R280 000 during peak time and R1 000 during off-peak time slots.
