Driver dies after a heart attack

Midrand – Driver has a heart attack while driving.

 

As is standard procedure if someone dies in an accident, Midrand police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after a man in his late 60s suffered a heart attack and drove into a wall in George Street on 26 November.

According to Emer-G-Med services, the man is believed to have had a heart attack while driving and subsequently lost consciousness and veered off the road into a wall. An off-duty medic who was driving past the accident stopped to assist and found that the driver was in cardiac arrest, showing no signs of life. The medical practitioner immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation but was unable get a pulse back.

The driver was declared dead on the scene. A passenger who was in the same car sustained moderate injuries and was taken to a nearby healthcare facility for treatment.

Spokesperson for the Midrand police, Sergeant Matome Tlamela said a case of culpable homicide has been registered and an investigation is underway.
