Police celebrate World Aids Day

MIDRAND – Police get educational on World Aids Day.

Midrand police celebrated World Aids Day at Pikitup Corporate Park on 30 November by educating the utility’s employees about HIV/Aids prevention and gender-based violence.

The celebration was held in conjunction with the Health and Social Development Department and Pikitup. Employees were educated about measures to be taken to protect themselves from HIV/Aids and leading healthy lives. Spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station, Sergeant Matome Tlamela also spoke to workers about gender-based violence.

“We saw the need to conduct this awareness campaign because there is a high number of abuse incidences that are not reported,” said Tlamela.

“We want to encourage people to report these cases and seek the necessary assistance available to them. The employees were very excited to be given the opportunity to learn, as other companies do not offer such awareness education.”
