Grade 1 hub opens at Kyalami Preparatory School

Kyalami Preparatory School has invested in its youngest learners with a new hub designed to make the transition into formal schooling exciting and supportive.

There is something special about a child walking into a new classroom for the first time.

It is a moment filled with excitement, anticipation and, sometimes, a few nerves. At Kyalami Preparatory School, that experience has been placed firmly at the heart of a new development on campus, the Grade 1 Hub.

The school has created a dedicated Grade 1 Hub designed to give its youngest learners a confident and inspiring start to their school journey.

Created as a dedicated environment for the school’s Grade 1 learners, the space brings classrooms and learning spaces together to create a more connected and purposeful experience for children, teachers and families.

The development represents more than a refurbishment of existing space. It reflects a deliberate investment in the early years of a child’s prep school journey, combining an environment in which young learners can learn, explore, build friendships and develop a growing sense of independence.

More than a classroom, the hub features a sensory garden, a kitchen, ensuite ablution facilities, audio-visual technology, ample storage and spacious aisles.

Grade 1 teacher Kelly Longo said the children love it. For teachers, the hub creates an environment specifically designed around the needs of children taking their first steps into formal primary schooling. For learners, it offers a space that feels welcoming, exciting and distinctly their own.

The Grade 1 Hub forms part of Kyalami Preparatory School’s continued focus on creating spaces that support both learning and the wider development of its learners.

Hala describes its approach as one that nurtures children while fostering a love of learning, a strong sense of self-worth, respect for others and social responsibility.

“We look forward to welcoming members of our community to our school to take a tour of our facilities and to learn more about our Grade 1 Hub. And judging by the smiles already coming through its doors, it is a beginning they are going to enjoy.”
