Tip-off leads to arrest

MIDRAND – Ivory Park police have arrested a man in possession of nyaope and dagga following a tip-off.

Ivory Park police crime prevention officers acted on a tip-off from a member of the public on 7 December, leading to the arrest of a 30-year-old man.

He was bust for dealing in drugs after he was allegedly found in possession of 63 sachets of nyaope and dagga.

Ivory Park police communications officer Captain Bernard Matimulane, said drug use in Ivory Park is a headache for both the community and the police, and it is, in some cases, responsible for fuelling other forms of crime, as addicts have to feed their habit.

The total value of the sachets, which are sold for R30 each on the streets of Ivory Park, is almost R2 000. All the drugs and R350 were confiscated.

The station commander, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has welcomed the arrest. He said it is in line with their Safe Festive Season operation, which aims to ensure a stable and peaceful environment with increased police visibility and high levels of crime prevention activities.

“We are pleased that our calls for people to join hands with the police are not falling on deaf ears, considering the fact that this suspect may not have been caught had this anonymous informer not come forward with this valuable piece of information,” said Ngcobo.
