MIDRAND – Midrand police are cracking down on security guards who are stationed at residential complexes.

Members of security companies stationed at different residential complexes in Midrand will soon be profiled to determine whether or not they have been involved in criminal activities.

This was decided at a recent Midrand Police Security Forum meeting held on 11 January.

Crime has escalated in residential complexes where security guards are present which prompted the decision to profile security guards. December statistics discussed in the meeting showed a high number of residential burglaries, followed by robberies, theft out of motor vehicles, assault and carjacking.

Spokesperson for Midrand Police Station, Sergeant Matome Tlamela said that the profiling would commence soon. “Most of these crimes take place in residential complexes. We need to establish how is it possible that crime continues to take place in complexes where security guards are present. We need to find out whether some of these crimes are committed by residents or criminals who work together with security guards,” said Tlamela.
