The Gauteng Department of Education improved learning with the introduction of tablets, which are issued to students, but this has made students a target for criminals.
Some of the schools who benefited from this new introduction of tablets are Phomolong Secondary School in Rabie Ridge, Allanridge Secondary School also in Rabie Ridge and Maphutha Secondary School in Mayibuye.
Rabie Ridge Police Station Captain Mofana Matsobane Masela said the police would like to make the community aware that there are criminals targeting school children.

Masela further revealed that some members of the community open false cases of stolen tablets to avoid responsibility and accountability when, actually, they were lost at home or were damaged due to negligence. Masela warned that a false case might lead to a case of perjury.
The police are investigating many cases of theft and robbery of tablets and appeal to the community to work with the police to solve these cases.
