Two young men brutally murdered in gang fights

MIDRAND – Police are investigating two murders in Mayibuye, sparked by gang fights.

 

Two young men were murdered and two more admitted to Tembisa Hospital after they were attacked in the early hours of the morning of 2 April.

One of the victims, Theetsa Sefoka (33) who lived in Mayibuye, was shot dead by robbers on his way back from a local tavern. A friend who was with him managed to run away. Sefoka died on arrival at Tembisa Hospital.

In a separate incident on the same day, Benjamin Phakamile (24) was killed in a gang fight in the area after he was hit with a bottle. Two other youths also sustained injuries during the fight and are recovering in Tembisa Hospital.

The police condemned the brutality by the young people who organise gang fights and terrorise the community.

Rabie Ridge Police Station’s corporate communications officer, Captain Mofana Masela said the police appeal to the community to come forward with information relating to either of these murders so that the perpetrators can be arrested and stand trial.

Masela warned the community not to walk around drunk in the streets because they become an easy target.
