House robberies are on the rise in Midrand

MIDRAND – Midrand police have reported an increase in house robberies and are calling on the community to keep their gates and doors locked at all times.

Midrand police have experienced an increase in serious crimes, particularly house robberies, since 12 June.

Spokesperson Sergeant Matome Tlamela said she cannot reveal the number nof crimes reported, but there has been a big increase in house robberies and the affected areas are mostly Sector 3, followed by Sector 2 and Sector 1.

“Most of the recently reported house robberies happened in the absence of the homeowner but with the domestic worker present, therefore, we call on all homeowners to educate their helpers to not open the gate for strangers without consulting with their employer,” said Tlamela.

The police said people need to be vigilant because the criminals are disguised as electricians and plumbers. With the aim of curbing the spread of crime, Tlamela said the police, together with Metro police, security companies and the Community Policing Forum will be increasing patrols in the affected areas.
