Midrand police station commander Brigadier David Tsotsotso implemented various crime-fighting initiatives led by different officials including Vispol head Lieutenant Colonel David Mahloromela and Sergeant Matome Tlamela.
The initiatives were:
- Midrand police visited African Bank on 18 August to conduct talks on procedures to be followed when opening a case and applying for a court interdict. The management and employees of the bank received pamphlets with step by step instructions relating to these procedures
- Metro police and various security companies held joint stop and search operations around Midrand. Vehicles were stopped and searched but no illegal items were found or confiscated
- Tlamela conducted a social crimes prevention talk together with the Metro police at Space Age Independent School in President Park, Midrand. The talk was focused on warning schoolchildren about drugs and the consequences of being found in possession of these substances or weapons. Tlamela said the awareness campaign was a success because the children participated and interacted in the discussions.
