Two Ivory Park women allegedly raped at gunpoint

IVORY PARK – Cases were opened on 28 August for both incidents and have since been handed over to detectives of the Police's Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation.

Two Ivory Park women were allegedly raped at gunpoint in two separate incidents on the night of 27 August.

Cases were opened on 28 August for both incidents and have since been handed over to detectives of the Police’s Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation.

“In the first rape incident, a 28-year-old woman accepted a lift from a taxi and one of the people inside the taxi was known to her. Once the car was in motion, the two men began to change direction, with one of them saying he wanted to collect food from an unmentioned location,” said Ivory Park Police Station spokesperson, Captain Bernard Matimulane.

“Eventually the two men went to an address in Ivory Park where she said she was forced out of the vehicle into a shack, her mouth covered in sellotape.

“The two men allegedly took turns raping the victim at gunpoint. Once they were done with her, she managed to escape but it’s not yet clear how.”

On the same day, a 24-year-old woman, who was on her way home after visiting a friend, was also allegedly raped at gunpoint. The victim was allegedly accosted by an armed man who took her to an unoccupied shack in Ivory Park Ext 10 and allegedly raped her.

Police are investigating both cases and strongly believe they will be able to make some headway soon.
